9 Weeks Old

Last week was a busy week for the Sudar family. Tuesday we hung out with Auntie Meaghan during the day and helped her get registered. Tuesday night we went to the Rockies game. It was chilly but Emerson stayed warm in the baby carrier on Robert's chest. Of course they lost but we still had fun with our Rockies friends. Wednesday we went to lunch to celebrate Robert and Corrie's birthdays at My Brother's Bar. Robert goes there all the time but it was Emerson and my first visit to this glorious establishment. One of the brothers came by to see Emerson and then came back a few minutes later with a t-shirt for E. How sweet is that? Thursday I had a doctor's appointment and then we met one of my girlfriends for lunch. Emerson behaved himself the whole day. Thursday was Robert's actual birthday. When he got home from work he opened his presents and then we had dinner. Friday we met Robert and Grandma Monica at Mimi's Cafe for lunch. Afterwards we walked around The Mills with Grandma. Needless to say, it was a very busy week but we got to see a lot of people.

Memorial Day Weekend

Okay, this post is a little late. But let me catch you up with what we have did. Friday Robert was off work so we spent the day running errands. That afternoon we planted the flowers Robert and Emerson got me for Mother's Day. Saturday we hung around the house all day. Sunday Emerson and I had a suprise to kickoff Daddy's birthday week - Robertpalooza. (In my family birthdays are a big deal and because we have so much family the celebrating usually goes on for about a week. One year my sister Brigid referred to my birthday week as Natapalooza. LOL. I believe everyone should celebrate their birthdays for a week so I always call them ___apalooza). Anyway, we planned a special birthday lunch for Robert at Casa Bonita! He's never been there let alone had a birthday party there so I figured this was the year. Living here for the last 9 years he's heard plenty of people talk about this magical place and has been wanting to go. I didn't tell him where we were going and as we pulled into the parking lot he said "ARE WE GOING TO CASA BONITA?!?!?" with this suprised look on his face. It was classic! Anyway, we had a great time even though the food is worse than any of us really remembered. We just filled up on those glorious sopaipillas! The whole time Robert kept saying "I can't believe this place! There's trees, and rocks and everything in here." We saw the cliff divers, played ski ball in the arcade and he even went in Black Bart's Cave (Emerson was eating so we skipped this part). Hopefully he will remember his first trip to Casa Bonita since Emerson won't remember his. LOL.

Monday we went shopping and then to a barbecue at Mikey and Sarah's house. I'll post photos of the weekend and of course the trip to Casa Bonita soon!

8 Weeks Old

This past weekend was relatively busy. Saturday Emerson and I met my friend Alyson for lunch and then hung out at home in the afternoon. Robert was playing golf for my cousin Nicholas' bachelor party. Saturday night Robert was going to a barbecue (for said bachelor party) and I had a bachelorette dinner (for the bride to be) so Emerson had his first babysitting experience. He went to Oma Teresa's house where Auntie Meaghan helped take care of him. This was the first time he's been away from both Robert and me. I guess he did great! Sunday Robert was helping put in a sprinkler system at my grandparents house while Emerson and I got some things done around the house and ran some errands.

Monday was Emerson's 2 month well checkup. The doctor said that he looked fine and had a great demeanor. He weighed 11 lbs. 3 1/2 oz (50%) and was 23" long (50%) while his head measured 15 1/2" (25%). He also got 4 shots. They brought in two nurses and they simultaneously gave him the shots in his legs. 2 shots (1 in each leg) and then another 2 shots. Poor baby! That afternoon he was pretty fussy. He had a fever and just wanted to be held so that's what his Mama did. He still slept great that night! Tuesday he was still a little fussy and wanted Mama. I found what appeared to be blood in the front of his diaper which sent us back to the pediatrician. Turns out it was just brick dust. Apparently when babies get too "dry" (slightly to severely dehydrated) they have a higher concentration of urate crystals in their urine. These crystals along with with chemicals in the diaper produce a rusty/red color that can look like blood but is simply brick dust (yes this is a medical term, we didn't make it up). Moral of the story: since Monday was so hot plus E had a fever from his shots he just got a little dehydrated. So, I just nursed extra the rest of Tuesday and all is well.

Tuesday night we had to go to baptism class for an hour so we dropped him off at Oma Teresa and Sir's house to play again. He was still a little fussy so his Oma held him and gave him his bottle. Today Robert is off so we're running errands and getting things done. We are definitely looking forward to the long weekend together!

First Mother's Day!

7 Weeks Old!

He's growing up so fast! Emerson was 7 weeks old this past Tuesday. We spent the day hanging out at home and then went to the Rockies game that night. We were all happy because the weather was great and the Rockies won. It was a perfect summer evening. Wednesday we met Sarah for lunch downtown. Yesterday Aunt Mary Carol came to spend some time with us and we went out to lunch. Today Grandma Monica was here for a visit and kept us company while we ran some errands.

My first Mother's Day was nice. We went to Grandma & Grandpa Crandell's for breakfast and it was great to see all the Crandells. Then we came home and Gramster & Grandpa Bernie stopped by to meet Emerson. We haven't been able to take him up to Leadville because he was too little and they happened to be in town so they came by. Then we just relaxed at home. Robert and Emerson got me two nice cards and flowers for my flower pots. It was crazy to actually be a mom this year!


I've been staying busy with little projects around the house and of course taking care of Emerson. Robert has been working and his summer softball league started up again this past Monday. Emerson and I went to the game and they won! Gus is good and has been very vigiliant when it comes to Emerson this week. He really has been a good dog and we're so lucky he's been behaving himself.



Time is flying by and I can't believe I only have 4 weeks left before I go back to work. We've been filling out Emerson's daycare paperwork this week. Little Chicks here he comes.

Oh Happy Boy!

Sunday morning Emerson woke up about 7 am to be changed and fed. Well, the diaper was not pretty. Since we were going to give him a bath that morning anyway I just cleaned him up, put on a fresh diaper and wrapped him in this blanket. Robert and I were still tired so I brought him with me and put him between us in the bed. He was staring at Robert so Robert started talking to him and Emerson started "talking" back. I grabbed the camera and was able to capture this grin. His first smile on film - or jpg or whatever you say these days.

Six Weeks Old

Yesterday Emerson was six weeks old. The day started off with a trip to the OB for my postpartum check up. While we were there Emerson woke up so the OB, nurse practioner and ultrasound technician (she saw A LOT of Emerson) all had the chance to hold him. Then we came home and Aunt Dena and cousin Jack came over for lunch. We couldn't pass up the opportunity for a photo op of these two. Won't these pictures be great when they're 18? We'll have to continue to get the boys together at regular intervals so that they can be the great playmates we hope they will be.

Emerson's hair is starting to fall out. We're finding it in his cradle and noticing that it's thinning. So now we're curious what color his new hair will be. Red? Blond? More brown? Only time will tell. His eyes are still blue but it seems like they might be starting to get lighter. He definitely recognizes Robert and I and gets excited each night when Daddy gets home from work and comes to talk to him. He continues to enjoy music and the sound of our voices. We've been reading to him and playing with some of his toys. He's not really grasping for any of them yet. We've also been trying to do some tummy time each day. Some days Emerson is more tolerant of this exercise than others. Finally, the last couple of days he's been going through a growth spurt. It seems like all he does is eat or sleep.
