Last Weekend in August

Our weekend started off Friday night in Genesee where we helped our friend Jon celebrate his Golden Birthday. If you don't know what a Golden Birthday is it's when the number of your age matches the number of your birthdate. Jon turned 28 on the 28th. (28 will also be Robert and my Golden Birthdays while Emerson will celebrate his at 24). The rest of the weekend was spent catching up on a miriad of things around the house. Being a homeowner and working parents means there's a lot to do come the weekend. We did however squeeze in some time to go and meet Mikey & Sarah's puppies. They are so cute! We were almost tempted to take one...like we don't have enough going on!

This should make all Broncos fans happy to see. He turned sideways in his seat so he could see the game on tv.

5 Months Old

This past Monday Mr. Emerson turned 5 months old. He celebrated by eating green beans, the third food he's tried. So far he has had peas, carrots and green beans. He did not like the carrots at all. However, he seems to like the green foods.




Here are the new things he can do:

• He's actually starting to play with his toys now for a few minutes at a time.


• No longer uses the baby bath tub but is in the tub like a big boy.


• Loves to splash during bath time.


• Can make motorboat noises.


• Holds up his arms when he wants to be picked up.


• Can roll from back to tummy now! (This is very exciting as it saves Mommy & Daddy time because we no longer have to flip him over when he gets himself on his tummy and gets stuck)


• Eating: cereal, peas, carrots, green beans.


• Smiles at himself in the mirror.


• Is starting to army crawl when he's on his tummy and sees something he wants.


• VERY close to sitting on his own.


• Reaching for things in front of him (on the table, in Mommy & Daddy's hands...right now it's the keyboard)


• Is sleeping through the night again after a 5 week hiatus (Thank you God!)


• Has the very beginnings of stranger anxiety sometimes.


• Can put himself to sleep when left in his crib (and sleepy!)


• Can kinda put his paci back in his mouth.


• Able to entertain himself for longer stretches of time (approx. 20 min)


• Has 2 bottom teeth


• Has almost lost all the darker brown hair he had when he was a baby. Replaced with blond hair (a tinge of red).

We can't believe what a big boy he has become in such a short time. This month he'll help celebrate a few more birthdays, have a visit Nonie Ger & Grandpa Ace, go to his first CSU football game, attend a few more Rockies games and we're sure there will be more firsts!

Mommy & Daddy Go On A Date

Last weekend Oma Teresa & Sir offered to come over and watch Emerson so that we could go on a date. We were really excited! We decided to go see this thing called a movie? LOL. It had been forever since we had been to the movies and since that is one place we can't really take E we figured this was a great opportunity. We went to see The Proposal, it was really cute and funny. We also saw The Hangover which was hysterical! We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh. Please note, for our older audience, there is quite a bit of swearing and some nudity. You've been warned. Emerson did great with Oma & Sir while we were gone so we would say the day was a success.

Last Sunday we went to Riley's 1st birthday party. We can't believe she's already one! Emerson had fun people watching and trying to grab Daddy's beer bottle. LOL. Other than those two exciting events we mostly just hung out around the house and worked on our constant to do list. When you're grown ups you sure are busy!

Emerson started eating peas last week. This is exciting...and messy. I found these bibs that a family friend made that offer more coverage. They also look like Emerson is wearing a poncho.

Ty Christopher

On Tuesday, August 11th my sister Meaghan gave birth to our newest nephew - Ty Christopher. He weighed in at 6 lbs 14 oz and was 19 inches long. Mama and baby are home and doing well.

For all those keeping track that makes 2 nephews and a niece this year! Emerson will have lots of playmates.

Camping

Last weekend we decided to go camping. Because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis I have not been camping for many years. Because Robert is married to me, he has not been camping for many years. But since I'm feeling better and Emerson is always up for an adventure we decided to try it. We headed up to a KOA campground outside of La Porte for a weekend with Mikey & Sarah, Augie & Noel and the Flick family. (I didn't say we were going to totally rough it!) We wanted to be somewhat close to home in case Emerson freaked out and wasn't having it and I needed a bathroom.

We left after work on Friday and got up north around 8 o'clock. I fed Emerson his cereal while Robert and some of our friends helped him set up the tent. This would be the 8 person tent with pet den that I got Robert for our 2nd anniversary present. That's right, we just had our 3rd anniversary...oh well. We had hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner and then made smores. Emerson was his usual Mellow Fellow self. He loved to look at the campfire and seemed amazed by this site! Later we put him to bed in his pack n' play (now that he's rolling this was a necessity) in our tent. We woke up on time in the night to feed him and his hands got cold so we put a pair of socks on them (good idea Sarah!) Saturday we hung out around the campsite playing games, talking, etc. Dinner was chicken and corn on the cob. For dessert we had these amazing treats the Flick family calls Pudgie Pies. You put pie filling between two buttered pieces of bread, put them in the metal grilled chesse things for camping and place on the hot coals. Once a little time has passed you remove and sprinkle with sugar. Absolutely delicious! I've been craving them since we had them, if only we had a campfire!

Sunday we got up, packed up and headed home. On the way we made a detour in Fort Collins and ate at Big City Burrito. So delicious! All in all camping was a sucess and we plan to do it a few times next summer.

Putonti Visit and Winter Park

This past weekend Robert's best friend Matt, his wife Megan and their son Max were in town from Houston. Max is about 5 weeks older than Emerson. It was our first time meeting Max and their first time meeting Emerson. The last time we all saw each other was Christmas when Megan and I were in our third trimesters. Since Megan is on a break from dental school for a few weeks they decided to come out for a visit.

They arrived on Thursday afternoon and that night we went to dinner. Friday Robert took the day off and he, the Putontis and Emerson went to Red Rocks and then took the Coors brewery tour. After I got off of work we headed up to Winter Park where we stayed in my friend Lisa's parents condo. It was a beautiful condo and we had plenty of space to hang out. Friday night we made dinner and talked. Saturday morning we got up and headed into Winter Park for a little shopping and lunch. Saturday afternoon we drove to Grand Lake and walked around downtown. That night we just hung out at the condo and played games after the boys went to bed. Sunday we left the condo and headed back down the mountain but first we stopped at the Continetal Divide for a few Kodak moments as this was also Emerson's first trip to the mountains. We also stopped at Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs on the way back. Sunday night we had dinner here and then played more games. Monday Robert was off but everybody relaxed here at home. Yesterday Robert dropped the Putontis off at DIA so they could head home to Houston.

Max and Emerson were able to "play" with each other a little bit. Both boys enjoyed watching each other and the opposite parents. It was a great weekend with lots of memories made.
