10 Weeks Old

Emerson is 10 weeks old today. The time has flown by. This past weekend we mostly hung out around the house. On Saturday we stopped by to wish Grandma Crandell happy birthday and then we dropped Emerson off with Oma Teresa so we could go to lunch and a movie. What a special treat! We saw Angels and Demons. We both read the book and loved it and the movie was good too. On Sunday our friends Justin and Jandi stopped by with their son Gavin who will be 2 in October. We learned that we have a lot of babyproofing to do before E is crawling. LOL.

Emerson has come far with his development. Here's a little update:
  • He will bat at his bunny, bear and toys hanging on the toy bars above his bouncy seat and swing
  • He can hold onto toys for a minute or so
  • He likes to grab onto Mommy's hair and our clothing (like I said, our own little spider monkey)
  • He continues to be alert and loves to look around at his surroundings
  • He's very smiley and has started to smile at other people besides Mommy and Daddy
  • He likes to lay on his back with toys above him. We frequently lay him down on a quilt in the living room. The hardest part of this is keeping Gus from licking him! LOL Meanwhile, Emerson loves watching Gus move around the room
  • Emerson continues to sleep from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Obviously he got the memo that Mommy needs her sleep and that if she's not happy nobody's happy
  • He's "talking" more and more and blowing bubbles
  • He holds his head up pretty well and has started sitting in his Bumbo seat
  • Emerson continues to dislike tummy time but it's getting better and we still make him do it!
I have two weeks left of maternity leave. This week and next week. This week we're hanging out around the house and I'm getting some little things done and getting our lives in order. Sunday we leave for New Mexico. Robert has to teach a class in Albuquerque Wednesday through Friday so Emerson and I are tagging along. But first we're going to Santa Fe Sunday through Tuesday. It will be nice to have a little family vacation together before I start work and Emerson starts daycare. June 15th is the big day! I get a little sad when I think about having to leave him but I know that it's the right decision for all of us. It will be hard the first couple of weeks but it'll get easier. At least that's what all my mom friends tell me.

It's never easy, but it does get sooo much easier. And then, there is nothing better than after a long day, going to pick him up and seeing his smile!
