Thoughts of the Almost 3 Month Father...

Well well well....
Here we are again. Almost three months into this fatherhood thing and after many new adventures and experiences I feel like I've learned some new tidbits (or tid-bitties if you're so inclined) that I need to share with the reading audience.

  • Your babies grow up fast. It's hard to tell since you see them everyday, but they do. I am constantly impressed at how much Emerson changes. Not just physically, but mentally too.

  • Birthday lunch surprises with your wife and son are awesome.

  • ...Especially if you get to go to Casa Bonita for the first time in your life.

  • ...But especially if a bunch of your friends meet you there too.

  • Sopapillas. Yum.

  • It will be fun when Emerson is old enough to help me break in a new baseball glove.

  • Trips with your baby are fun. Don't let anyone tell you differently. If you plan things out and give yourself plenty of time, and don't mind bringing along all the supplies, you'll really enjoy yourself.

  • With that in mind, it is really nice that DIA has a "Family" security check line so we didn't feel like we were slowing down some speedy business traveler while we put all our stuff, including the stroller on the conveyor belt.

  • Santa Fe is a really cool city. Lots to do, lots to see, and lots to eat. Bring money.

  • If you're going to take your baby into the pool for the first time. Do it on a really warm day, not a kind of warm day at dusk. The water is colder than you'd like it to be. But if you must, tell your wife that you'll take the pictures and she can go ahead and get in first. Sorry Natalie.

  • Before you venture out to shop in Santa Fe with your wife and baby in tow, make sure the stores are open.

  • Never before had I seen store hours that were "Eleven-ish to Seven-ish"

  • If you think your baby might be ready for the next size of diapers, they probably are.

  • It is really hard on mothers when their children start daycare. I will never fully understand it, but I realize that it is important for me to support Natalie. Thanks honey.

  • It is reassuring when the daycare tells you how well your child is doing.

  • If you're thinking about riding the world's longest tram to the top of Sandia Peak, Do it.

  • If you're thinking about commenting on how the loud crying kid from your tram ride up is taking a earlier tram down the mountain and you'll be able to have a nice quite ride, Don't do it. Your son will turn that karma on you big time.

  • And your wife will be over by the window and won't be able to come over to help you calm your son down.

  • Albuquerque is a neat place, but the food is truly fantastic. (If you like things a little spicy)

  • Emerson doesn't like things a little spicy. (at least not yet.)

  • If you have a big day the next day, say for example, your son is starting daycare and your wife is going back to work, it will be the first time in many weeks that your son will require a 2am feeding. It's science.

  • Thank goodness for "crying rooms" in churches.

  • Unless your kid is just a little fussy but the other baby in the room is screaming his guts out. In those instances I wish they made a "moderate crying room" and a separate "obnoxious noise hole" so parents could differentiate.

  • It's nice to spend time with family because they really want to hold the baby, thus giving the parents a break. It's win-win.

  • I'm looking forward to my first Father's Day. It should be a bunch of fun.

I guess that's all for now. Check back later for more.
