Santa

Last Sunday we took Emerson to see Santa at Park Meadows. They do this cool thing there called Santa Express. You check in at Santa's hostess stand and they give you a time to come back and see Santa. Then you can go shop, walk around, etc and not spend an hour in line increasing the chance of your child having a meltdown. We got in line to check in at 11 am (when Santa opened) and we were given a 1:45 pm tim to come back. Apparently Santa was taking a lunch break from 1 - 1:45 pm. Rough gig huh Santa? Anyway, we shopped, had lunch and returned a little before our schedule time. While we waited in a very short line Emerson was busy people watching and taking in the sites of Santa's set up. Our time came! Robert held Emerson and chatted with Santa a little bit. During which Santa said "they aren't usually scared of me until 18 months." Famous last words Santa. Robert set Emerson on Santa's lap, walked away and this is what happened:

That's right, he bawled. Poor kid. Once he was back in his Mama's arms he was fine. Although he didn't sleep great the night before and was pretty tired so this could have contributed to the crying.

This past Friday night Emerson's school, Little Chicks, had a Christmas party for all the kids. The older kids sang songs, there was some food to munch on and there was a Santa for photo ops. We thought we'd give Santa another whirl. And here's take 2:

As you can see, Emerson is terrified and began crying. This photo was taken just as it started. Needless to say, Ol' St. Nick wasn't such a big hit this year. So, I guess we'll try again next year.

Santa's a menace this time of year. I think only doctors make kids cry this much, and that's only because the doctor sticks kids with a maniacal sharp thing right into their spongy flesh.

I'm with you, Emerson. Even though those look like some friendly Santas, I never wanted to see them either.
