Last Monday night Emerson was starting to act sleepy so I decided it was time for jams. He crawled up the stairs and closed the baby gate. Then he pulled himself up and was standing there holding on to the gate. I headed into Emerson's room and started to get his crib ready and pull out his jammies. Robert was upstairs gathering the trash (trash night again already?).
When I was all ready for him I said "Emerson, come in here and let mom put your jams on."
Emerson was standing in the doorway of his room, holding on to the door frame while I was sitting on the floor reaching for him. Then, he let go of the door frame and took 5 steps into my arms! Robert was in the hall standing right behind E watching the whole thing. It was so exciting and all the more special because we were both there to witness our little guy's first steps! After much cheering from mom and dad we took him back to the door frame and got out the video camera to capture more steps. But alas, there was only crawling.
Since this momenteous event there have not been anymore steps. There has been more standing though. Emerson will hold onto us, his music table, the wall and then take himself off and stand there for longer and longer periods of time. We know in time, when he's ready Emerson will start walking. But for now, we're not quite ready for that....although we will burn more calories when it happens.
